The Influence of Chamfered and Rounded Corners on Vortex-Induced Vibration of Super-Tall Buildings

In order to study the influence of chamfered and rounded corners on vortex-induced vibration super-tall buildings, a series multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF, in short) aeroelastic models were made, including chamfered-corner with chamfer ratios 0%, 2.5%, 5.0%, 7.5%, 12.5%, rounded-corner 15%, 17.5%. The crosswind displacement response each model was measured by laser meter wind tunnel. test results indicate that is significantly reduced when ratio increases 5% or 12.5%; particular, (VIV, can be more than 60%, which indicates corner play good role restraining VIV super high-rise buildings. When speed small, reduction mainly caused load; approaches speed, negative aerodynamic damping phenomenon proper disappears, shows suppressed not only because cut reduces load but also weakens effect.
